What Can I Do Coach?

One of the questions that we get a lot from our students is, "Coach, what can I do during the times that I am not in class to improve my game?" The answer is and always will be: CONDITIONING. There is nothing worse to see than a fighter who is preparing to battle, who has his grappling, throwing and striking techniques all in order, but who tanks in the first few minutes of a match. A truly well-rounded conditioning program will focus on:
  • Building strength
  • Endurance training
  • Increasing aerobic/anaerobic capacity
  • Power building
  • Increasing flexibility

Now, the next question.....how? Take an assessment of your current condition. What are your weak points? Are you really strong for a short period of time? Is your aerobic capacity great, but you can't lift someone half your size? Can you touch your knees? Focus on those areas of weakness while still maintaining your strengths. Some of our favorite conditioning drills include:

  • Interval training
  • Running/Sprinting
  • Plyometrics
  • Functional Exercises like pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, squats & lunges
  • Weightlifting
  • Stretching (which is way underrated in our opinion)

With the ever-increasing popularity of MMA, the competition is fierce. Supreme conditioning can be the deciding factor in winning or losing. So, if you haven't already, start today. With little effort, you can develop a program that will boost your conditioning to a new level.

Check out one of our sponsors, Kamagon Fitness. They have a great, new product that can be used in a variety of ways to enhance your conditioning program.
